Statera Energy has received planning approval for a 3GW green hydrogen plant in Aberdeenshire, one of the largest of its kind in the UK, despite local opposition.
Kintore Hydrogen, which has already won UK government funding, plans to set up an initial 500MW electrolyser capacity by 2030 before scaling up to 3GW.
When the plans were submitted to Aberdeenshire Council, Statera said the 500MW was scheduled to be online by 2028.
The project intends to use local wind power to produce hydrogen that could be used in hard-to-abate heavy industries, as well as power generation.
