Storengy appoints Costain to design hydrogen salt cavern storage for HyNet
Infrastructure solutions company Costain has been selected to design an underground salt cavern site for hydrogen storage in Cheshire, the UK.
The engineering firm will undertake two front-end engineering and design (FEED) studies for Storengy UK’s Keuper Gas Project (KGSP), located near Northwich. The project will feature 19 salt caverns, along with hydrogen treatment, compression, dehydration, and transfer facilities.
Once construction is completed, the facility could store approximately 400 million normal cubic metres (Nm³) of hydrogen, equivalent to around 1,300GWh of energy. Hydrogen produced from the HyNet cluster will be stored here.
