Take 5: An interview with… Alicia Eastman and Alex Tancock, Founders of InterContinental Energy

Thanks for taking five with H2 View. For our readers that may be unfamiliar, can you tell us a little about InterContinental Energy?

InterContinental Energy (ICE) was founded in 2014 to develop oil and gas scale renewable energy projects, to help accelerate the energy transition. ICE is the world’s largest developer of green hydrogen and green fuels production facilities, which will decarbonise multiple energy-intensive and carbon-producing sectors.

To execute its vision, InterContinental Energy harnesses the vast untapped potential of coastal deserts to create mega-scale clean energy projects. Corporate social responsibility is embedded into our way of working, which means we strive to achieve win-win outcomes for those we work with, including: regional and national governments, consortium partners, local stakeholders and neighbours, and most importantly, with our First Nations partners.

And are we right in thinking that the company is a major partner in the AREH investor consortium, which is set to become the world’s largest power facility and renewables plant?
Yes, we are the project manager and largest investor, with a 46% stake. The consortium includes CWP Energy Asia, one of Australia’s largest renewables’ companies, Vestas, a world leading turbine manufacturer, and Pathway Investments. The Asian Renewables Energy Hub (AREH) is set to become the world’s largest power facility, surpassing even the Three Gorges Dam in China.
