Thyssenkrupp Nucera, Fraunhofer IKTS open SOEC pilot plant in Germany

Thyssenkrupp Nucera has opened a pilot plant to manufacture its new solid oxide electrolyser (SOEC) stacks developed by Fraunhofer IKTS.

The plant in Arnstadt, Germany, is initially targeting the production of 8MW of stacks per year as the electrolysis major looks to make progress in developing the SOEC technology.

The stack is based on an oxygen-conducting ceramic electrolyte substrate assembled with chromium-iron interconnectors, which the companies say “guarantees” high corrosion resistance, optimised thermal cycle performance, and high long-term stability.
