Thyssenkrupp Nucera will begin delivering electrolysers to Stegra’s hydrogen-based green steel plant in Boden, Sweden, in the coming weeks.
Stegra CEO Henrik Henriksson confirmed the news on LinkedIn. In February 2024, Thyssenkrupp announced that the Stegra contract alone represented an order intake of €100m ($113m).
Up to 37 20MW alkaline electrolyser modules will be delivered to the site to form a 740MW green hydrogen production plant. Each module measures 40 metres in length and six metres in height.
Last September, Stegra secured a €100m grant from the Swedish Energy Agency to accelerate development of its plant, which is set to begin green steel production next year. By 2030, the company aims to produce five million tonnes of steel annually.
