TotalEnergies starts permitting for $16bn Chilean green hydrogen plant

TotalEnergies’ hydrogen subsidiary has started the permitting process for a $16bn green hydrogen plant in Chile.

The French oil and gas major’s joint venture with Eren, TotalEnergies H2, said it had submitted an environmental impact study for its H2 Magallanes Project and entered it into Chile’s Environmental Impact Assessment System (SEIA).

Planned for the San Gregorio commune, the project intends to produce up to 1.9 million tonnes of green ammonia per year on a 72,000-hectare site, primarily for export.
