Toyota and Hino to develop light-duty fuel cell trucks as part of new initiative

Toyota Motor Corporation and Hino will develop light-duty fuel cell electric trucks and part of a new agreement with Seven-Eleven Japan, FamilyMart and Lawson.

The companies today (8th Dec) announced the collaboration which will see Seven-Eleven, FamilyMart and Lawson trial the fuel cell trucks in 2021. Following trials, the group will evaluate whether continued trials are viable in 2022 and beyond.

If successful, the consortium will work to identify what is needed to support the vehicles, such as hydrogen stations, hydrogen supply, filling capability. Operating hours, vehicle costs and future popularisation will also be considered.

The cruising range for light-duty trucks will be set at approximately 400 km, aiming to meet high standards in both environmental performance and transport efficiency expected as a commercial vehicle.
