Toyota Motor Corporation and its subsidiary, Woven Planet Holdings, have developed a prototype portable hydrogen cartridge to supply hydrogen energy for a variety of daily life applications, in and outside of the home.
Announced last Wednesday (June 1), the companies hope the development will facilitate the everyday transport of hydrogen and are due to conduct Proof of Concept (PoC) trials in various locations, including the human-centred smart city, Woven City in Japan.
Toyota and Woven Planet claim the cartridge design offers, portable, affordable, and convenient energy, which removes the need for pipes, and could meet energy needs in remote, non-electrified areas.
Alongside ENEOS Corporation, Toyota and Woven Planet are building a comprehensive hydrogen-based supply chain aimed at accelerating and simplifying production, transport and daily usage.
The companies hope that the portable cartridge will contribute to the overall goal of Woven City; to reach a carbon-neutral society where everyone can access clean energy.
