Toyota equips Kenworth trucks with next generation fuel cell system

Toyota’s next generation fuel cell electric technology is now powering a new set of Kenworth T680 heavy-duty trucks in the US.

Engineers at Toyota Motor North America Research and Development today (11th Nov) said they has developed a new set of production-intent prototype trucks that are being prepared to run drayage routes at the ports of LA and Long Beach.

Equipped with the same fuel cell system as the all-new 2021 Mirai sedan, the trucks will undergo trials at the ports to validate performance, efficiency and drivability.

“This is an important step in the transition to emissions-free heavy-duty trucks,” said Andrew Lund, Chief Engineer, Toyota Motor North America Research and Development.
