Toyota, Ohmium to explore hydrogen microgrids in India

Toyota’s Indian joint venture is exploring hydrogen-powered microgrids with California-based electrolyser manufacturer Ohmium.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) inked a memorandum of understanding with the PEM electrolyser maker to explore developing “green hydrogen-based energy solutions” using its fuel cells and Ohmium’s electrolysers.

While details remain limited, the collaboration could support decentralised energy systems powered by renewable hydrogen, potentially addressing off-grid, backup power, or industrial site needs.

Hydrogen microgrids use electrolysis to produce hydrogen from renewable electricity, which can be stored and later converted back into power using fuel cells.
