Treat blended hydrogen like renewable power, says JM executive


Johnson Matthey’s (JM) Vice-President of Hydrogen and Sustainable Technologies says allowing consumers to purchase the renewable attributes of blended hydrogen, similar to RECs in electricity, could help scale demand.

Dr Eugene McKenna told H2 View that although he agrees hydrogen blending is “not the best use” of the energy carrier, with the correct market mechanisms, it could incentivise uptake.

His comments came during a busy first day of the World Hydrogen Summit, which saw discussions exploring wide-ranging tools to help project developers overcome offtake challenges.
