Turkey announces 70GW hydrogen aspirations with $1.2 per kg by 2053 goal

Last week (January 19) Turkey revealed aspirations to become a major hydrogen player, preparing its National Energy Strategy and Hydrogen Technologies Strategy and Roadmap.

Under the new strategy, Turkey has set the goals of reducing the cost of green hydrogen production to below $2.4/kg by 2035 and $1.2/kg by 2053, and boosting installed electrolyser capacity to 2GW in 2035, 5GW in 2035, and 70GW in 2053.

Minister for Energy and Natural Resources, Fatih Dönmez said that green hydrogen will be an important tool as the country strives to reach Net Zero emissions, highlighting its potential to decarbonise hard-to-abate industries such as chemicals, steel, cement, and more.
