UK and Ireland explore 100% hydrogen gas interconnector


The UK’s National Gas and Gas Networks Ireland (GNI) plan to explore establishing a 100% hydrogen-capable interconnector between the UK and Ireland.

The two network operators signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at building collaboration on hydrogen and biomethane gases, and blending them into natural gas systems.

It also set out a “shared ambition” to look at building a new or repurposing an existing interconnector between the two countries that could transport 100% hydrogen.
