UK Hydrogen Taskforce welcomes hydrogen’s inclusion in UK Government low carbon energy strategies

The UK Hydrogen Taskforce has expressed its support of the Net Zero Strategy, Heat and Buildings Strategy and the sequencing of carbon capture and storage clusters (CCS) with each including hydrogen.

Together, the publications set out a role for hydrogen within the low carbon energy mix whilst also featuring a roadmap to scale up production and deployment of hydrogen.

Clare Jackson, co-lead on the Hydrogen Taskforce Secretariat and Head of Innovation, Low Carbon at Gemserv, said, “Setting a clear path to net zero by 2050 is vital, and we are therefore pleased to see the Government’s Net Zero Strategy.

“We welcome the recognition in the strategy that hydrogen will play an essential role in a low carbon future for key sectors like transport and industry under any scenario. The definition of a clear plan to deliver net zero will also allow for progress to be measured and will make it easier to change course if we are off track to meet our net zero objectives.
