Uniper joins UK Hydrogen Taskforce

Uniper has joined the Hydrogen Taskforce, a growing cross-industry coalition that wants to establish 100 hydrogen stations in the UK by 2025 and the UK Government to commit £1bn towards hydrogen projects.

The German energy company will add its extensive experience of international investment, development and operation of large-scale projects, and expertise in hydrogen production to the Taskforce’s work with the UK Government.

Uniper is a pioneer in the field of hydrogen with knowledge of the entire value chain gained from our experience producing hydrogen and integrating it into the German gas network for more than seven years.

The company is actively driving decarbonisation, with hydrogen at the cornerstone of its strategy to make its European power generation portfolio carbon-neutral by 2035.

Commenting on joining the Hydrogen Taskforce, Mike Lockett, Uniper UK Country Chairman and Group Chief Commercial Officer Power, said, “We’re pleased to join the Hydrogen Taskforce and look forward to working alongside some of the UK’s leading organisations to help realise the UK Government’s ambition to become a world leader in hydrogen.”

“To reach Net Zero by 2050, the government, industry and academia will need to work together on a strategy and framework for a hydrogen economy to become a reality, and the Taskforce’s analysis will play a key part in helping to achieve this.”

“The government is currently devising a UK Hydrogen Strategy and seeking the Taskforce’s analysis on how to ensure that clean hydrogen remains front and centre of the UK’s drive towards Net Zero by 2050.”
