US House committee approves bill that could terminate 45V hydrogen tax credit


A House committee has approved a tax package that looks to repeal the US’ clean hydrogen production tax credit, setting the stage for a fierce congressional debate.

Despite a slew of attempts by Democrats to rewrite the package, the House Ways and Means Committee approved the so-called ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill’ on a party-line 26-19 vote after a marathon session that went on through the night.

The bill includes tax cut extensions and sweeping rollbacks of clean energy and healthcare funding, as well as a motion to terminate the Section 45V tax credit from the Biden-era Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

Under the proposal, which will now head to the House floor, hydrogen projects that enter construction after 31 December 2025 will not be able to claim 45V, effectively gutting its long-term, widespread value.
