A new project called VOLT will explore how microgrids that integrate renewables, battery storage, hydrogen, and smart technologies can help businesses in the North East of England cut carbon emissions and reduce energy costs.
The Vector-Optimised Microgrid Operations for Industrial Low-Carbon Transition (VOLT) initiative will study how microgrids can be used at ports, airports and factories.
Early estimates from the project partners suggest that industrial and commercial sites could save 10-15% on energy bills while reducing emissions by up to 10,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.
