Voltalia, TAQA Arabia sign agreement for Egyptian green hydrogen and renewable energy cluster

French-headquartered Voltalia and TAQA Arabia on Wednesday (December 7) signed an agreement with the Egyptian Government to develop, finance, and operate a cluster combining green hydrogen production, and renewable power generation.

Under initial plans, the partners have said they will build a green hydrogen production facility with capacity to produce up to 15,000 tonnes per year near Ain Sokhna port in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, installing a 100MW electrolyser, powered by 283MW of renewable power.

Voltalia and TAQA say they intend to expand the project to boast a green hydrogen production capacity of 150,000 tonnes per year with electrolyser capacity of 1GW, supplied by 2.7GW of solar and wind power.
