Made in America: New liquid hydrogen plant and extensive pipeline network position Air Products for growing hydrogen demand

As the world continues to seek cleaner, more sustainable energy, the volume of hydrogen used by an array of industries across North America continues to grow. As the world’s leading global hydrogen provider, Air Products is well positioned to meet the growing demand.

In 2021, Air Products’ newest liquid hydrogen plant at its La Porte, Texas industrial gas facility is scheduled to go on-stream. Plans to build the plant were first announced in 2018. Once on-stream, the liquid hydrogen plant will produce approximately 30 tonnes of liquid hydrogen per day. It will draw its hydrogen from Air Products’ existing Gulf Coast hydrogen pipeline system network.

“Our new liquid hydrogen production facility in Texas will assist with meeting current customer demand, as well as capture the increased growth that we see in several markets. Logistically, our La Porte plant has several operational benefits which make the site selection for this new facility a good choice,” said Francesco Maione, President – Atmospheric Gases, Americas at Air Products.

“This additional capacity will meet the projected growing liquid hydrogen needs coming from a variety of industries in the US for which a reliable source is vitally important to our customers.”
