Take 5: An interview with… Keith McGrane, CEO Corre Energy

Firstly, can you set the scene and outline Corre Energy’s role in the hydrogen industry?

Corre Energy develops energy storage projects which ensure electricity generated by renewable sources can be stored at scale and for multiple days. Unlike oil and gas, wind and solar sources can’t be turned on and off, so energy storage needs to step in to mitigate the impact of weather changes and lumpy supplies. As a result, it means renewable energy can be relied upon to support peaks and troughs of grid demand.

Our primary focus is on long duration projects where we use compressed air to store energy in large underground salt caverns. This allows large amounts of energy to be stored in one location at scale and for multiple days before being converted back into electricity as required.
