On its mission to ‘accelerate the green transition in the maritime sector by delivering technology that helps ships to reduce their environmental and climate impacts’, Norwegian hydrogen fuel cell innovator TECO 2030 has made numerous headlines.
One headline, none more impactful than any, was its announcement to establish a gigawatt-scale factory in Narvik, in Norway’s north, to meet customer demand for a key tool in decarbonising mobility at sea and on the roads.
With an expected investment of NOK 1bn ($98.9m) in the facility over a 10-year period, the creation of up to 500 jobs during pilot production and full-scale industrial production, and the capacity to produce 1.6GW worth of fuel cells annually, every aspect of the project looks set to make its mark on the fuel cell industry.
