In 2023, NEOM Green Hydrogen Company (NGHC) took the $8.4bn decision to build its 2.2GW green hydrogen plant in Saudi Arabia. With NGHC’s CEO, David Edmondson, set to stand aside for Wesam Alghamdi, H2 View spoke to Edmondson to reflect on the monumental year for NGHC and hydrogen.

2023 has been a monumental year for hydrogen generally and NGHC. What have your highlights been?

This past year really has been a truly formative one in NGHC’s journey, with the achievement of full financial close in May – the most significant of quite a few milestones.

When we reached a total investment value of $8.4bn, this reaffirmed the commitment and belief in this unique project by our stakeholders and the financial community, allowing us to accelerate construction on the world’s largest green hydrogen plant.
