20MW green hydrogen project plan launched to decarbonise mining in Chile

H2 Green Mining and Ohmium agree to develop green hydrogen projects in Chile to decarbonise mining operations.

Under the agreement, the two companies will deliver a 20MW green hydrogen pilot project, which could scale-up to 200MW, based in northern Chile – a region suited for renewable energy production from solar and wind power.

Ohmium’s PEM electrolysers will be used to generate hydrogen for the copper smelting process, along with other thermal processes in the mines. H2 View understands they could also be used to fuel trucks transporting minerals to the nearby port in Mejillones.

“H2 Green Mining is leading the way in transforming the copper mining sector for a sustainable future,” explained Arne Ballantine, Ohmium CEO.
