AHC funds SME hydrogen transition via AusHETS project

The Australian Hydrogen Council (AHC) has received funding to support the transition of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to hydrogen.

Up to AUD $920,000 ($601,505) will be awarded to the AusHETS project, received by AHC’s registered business, Hydrogen Mobility Australia. It is designed to provide advice and support to start-ups and SMEs participating in the Industry Growth Program.

The Australian Government’s Minister for Industry and Science, the Hon Ed Husic MP, awarded the funding to the AusHETs project with Cicada Innovations, as part of the Department of Industry, Science and Resources’ (DISR) Industry Partner Organisation (IPO).

By supporting the transition of the country’s Hydrogen Equipment, Technology and Services (HETS) sector, AusHETS aims to strengthen Australia’s position as a leader in hydrogen and open up opportunities across the value chain.

For the Industry Growth Program, the AusHETS’ project will provide:

  • Bespoke coaching, commercialisation and growth workshops.
  • Tailored industry engagement such as webinars, investor roundtables and events.
  • Access to facilities.
  • Case study development.

The AHC’s CEO, Dr. Fiona Simon explained the organisation’s aim is to “strengthen our understanding of Australia’s economic complexity and grow our capacity to manufacture key components in an industry that is guaranteed to grow globally.”

She added, “We are also excited to be working in collaboration with Cicada Innovations to deliver a number of workshops, such as the Hydrogen Elevate Workshops and Hydrogen Fast Start Program and Climate Salad to tap into its network and take part in industry-recognised events.”

Earlier this year (2024), the Australian Government shortlisted six applicants for its AUD $2bn ($1.36bn) Hydrogen Headstart Program. The projects represent over 3.5GW of electrolyser capacity.
