Air Liquide’s hydrogen unit in Québec is now producing up to 8.2 tonnes per day of low-carbon hydrogen, the French industrial gas giant confirmed today (26th Jan) as it reaffirmed its long-term commitment to hydrogen energy.
Supplied with renewable energy from Hydro-Québec, the 20MW PEM (proton exchange membrane) electrolyser, equipped with Cummins technology, is the largest of its kind in the world and will help meet the growing demand for low-carbon hydrogen in North America, Air Liquide said.
Located in Bécancour, the city’s proximity to the hydrogen mobility market in the northeast of the continent will ensure the supply of low-carbon hydrogen for industrial use and mobility in Canada and the US.
Commenting on the unit’s inauguration, Susan Ellerbusch, CEO of Air Liquide North America and Group Executive Committee Member, said, “The fight against climate change is at the heart of the Air Liquide Group’s strategy.”
