From grey to blue: Air Products plans Europe’s ‘largest’ blue hydrogen plant

Air Products has today (November 6) announced it will retrofit its grey hydrogen production plant in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, with carbon capture and CO2 treatment technology to produce blue hydrogen.

UPDATE: The industrial gas giant has confirmed to H2 View the carbon capture technology will be fitted its existing HyCO4 hydrogen plant with a capacity of 300 tonnes per day, meaning more than half the company’s CO2 emissions in the Port of Amsterdam will be captured.

With the carbon capture technology expected to come online in 2026, the resulting low-carbon hydrogen is planned to serve ExxonMobil’s Rotterdam refinery and additional customers in industry and mobility via the Air Products’ hydrogen pipeline network system.
