Blue ammonia partnership signed between JM and thyssenkrupp

Johnson Matthey (JM) and thyssenkrupp Uhde will collaborate to produce an integrated solution for blue ammonia technology, using JM’s hydrogen expertise.

Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), they will combine the uhde™ ammonia process and JM’s LCH™ hydrogen technology, to enable the production of blue ammonia with up to 99% CO2 capture.

Building on their 25-year ammonia partnership, the two companies aim to meet the global demand for ammonia, which is expected to increase to more than 600 million tonnes by 2050 from shipping and power generation markets.

“Combining our expertise and over two decades worth of partnership with thyssenkrupp Uhde, we are excited to offer this technology which will allow our customers to produce ammonia with significantly lower CO2 emissions,” explained Alberto Giovanzana, Managing Director – Catalyst Technologies at JM.
