City of Lancaster approves planning for 400MW green hydrogen plant

California’s City of Lancaster has approved planning for a 400MW green hydrogen production plant with onsite solar capacity and storage.

The Lancaster Planning Commission today (March 20) said it had given the go-ahead to Element Resources’ Lancaster Clean Energy Center (LCEC) as the city looks to develop its renewable hydrogen infrastructure.

Set to be divided into two sites – 442 acres and 896 acres respectively – the LCEC will host 650 ground-mounted solar arrays to power 330MWh of long-duraction battery energy storage to provide electricity during periods of low-solar output.
