In pursuit of ensuring hydrogen safety standards, the Compressed Gas Association (CGA) has formed a new Hydrogen Membership to represent all segments of the hydrogen economy in the Americas.
H2 View understands the Membership is open to any company engaged in the manufacture, sale, lease, transportation, or distribution of hydrogen or any equipment, materials, supplies, or technical services used in connection with the hydrogen industry, for businesses operating in the US, Canada, or Mexico.
It comes as the hydrogen market continues to grow in the Americas, following the introduction of the Inflation Reduction Act in the US, which sets out to offer tax credits for low-carbon production and fuel cell vehicles, with indications that Canada looks set to follow suit with similar policies.
Standardisation was a hot topic at the Hydrogen Americas Summit in Washington DC, last month (October 2022), where CGA President and CEO, Rich Gottwald stressed the need for hydrogen standards to encourage end-user confidence and global trade.
Commenting on the launch of the new membership, Gottwald, said, “As the hydrogen market continues to grow in the Americas, especially on the heels of the Inflation Reduction Act which included $369bn for climate and energy policies, it is imperative that CGA’s membership adapt to include manufacturers, distributors, and others in the hydrogen space.
“CGA has been at the forefront of publishing hydrogen safety standards since 1955 and more recently has been running a year-long public awareness campaign for hydrogen safety. Our work is just beginning, and we look forward to ensuring the bright future of hydrogen with our new Hydrogen Members.”
