Daimler Truck and Masdar to explore UAE-to-Europe liquid hydrogen exports

Daimler Truck and Masdar have announced they will explore the feasibility of liquid green hydrogen exports from the UAE to Europe.

Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the two companies will assess the export of the fuel, aimed to be delivered to Europe by 2030 and advance the decarbonisation of the continent’s transport industry.

The Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, Masdar, has invested, or committed to invest, in worldwide projects with a combined value of more than $30bn with ambitious growth plans to reach 100GW by 2030. Its current total electricity generation capacity is more than 20GW.

Daimler Truck is aiming to achieve a dual-track strategy with hydrogen and battery-powered vehicles and to demonstrate the feasibility of using liquid hydrogen in road transport, the company’s Mercedes-Benz GenH2 Truck prototype completed a trip ranging 1,047km across Germany under one fill of liquid hydrogen.
