Danish duo’s energy-efficient electrolyser set to hit the global market

Following initial operations in Denmark, Stiesdal Hydrogen and Danfoss Heat Exchangers have agreed to roll out an electrolyser onto the global market.

Under a commercial agreement, the Danish companies will produce new and scalable solutions for the core component of Stiesdal’s electrolyser, an electrolysis cell stack.

Leveraging Danfoss’ customised plate and welding expertise, a prototype was designed and tested before the first electrolyser production versions operated at a combined biogas and power-to-X plant.

“Together, we have achieved a milestone in re-engineering one of the core components of alkaline electrolysis,” explained Bo Birkemose, Head of Strategic Partnering at Stiesdal.

“The result is an electrolyser that integrates well with renewable energy sources and allows for cost-efficient green hydrogen production.”

Dennis Appel, Senior Vice-President at Danfoss, added, “Our heat exchanger design, a core competency of Danfoss, fits right into Stiesdal’s needs for an energy-efficient electrolyser.

“With our recent commercial agreement in place, we are ready to take hydrogen production and power-to-X to new heights as a key solution across hard-to-abate industry sectors.”

Following the signing of the agreement at Danfoss’ facility in Kolding, Denmark, the two companies will now prepare the electrolysers for a launch into more markets and industries.
