Electric excavator charged by hydrogen generator in Swedish demo

An electric excavator has been charged by an off-grid hydrogen fuel cell generator during a 14-day demonstration in Sweden.

Undertaken at the Port of Gothenburg, PowerCell Group, Hitachi Energy, Skanska, Volvo Group and Linde Gas showcased the HyFlex™ generator’s potential as a clean alternative to traditional diesel systems.

The 100kW generator uses a hydrogen fuel cell from PowerCell in combination with batteries to produce power without any grid input or emitting greenhouse gases (GHGs).
