Element Fuels completes site preparation for hydrogen-powered refinery

Element Fuels Holdings has completed site preparation and pre-construction of a hydrogen-powered refinery and combined-cycle power plant.

Located in the Port of Brownsville, Texas, the facility is expected to become operational in 2027 and be capable of producing enough low-carbon hydrogen to supply 100% of the refinery’s fuel requirements.

Excess hydrogen produced will be used to generate low-carbon electricity from Element’s hydrogen-capable combined-cycle power plant. In addition, over 100MW of excess electricity generated will be made available to the Energy Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT).
