Energy Observer makes final stop in the US

The hydrogen-powered Energy Observer made its final stop over the weekend, before its grand return to Saint-Malo, France.

From May 1-5, 2024, the zero-emission vessel made its 89th stop in Boston, the US, before a brief visit to the island of Saint Pierre-et-Miquelon. It marked the last leg of its Odyssey on the US’ east coast.

The final stop provided an opportunity for the Energy Observer team to engage with local students and researchers from institutions like the MIT Energy Initiative and the Future Energy Systems Centre.

Throughout 2023, the Energy Observer sailed from Africa to South America, with visits to Namibia and Brazil, amongst others.

Speaking on the 2023 voyage, Victorien Erussard, Energy Observer President, Captain and Founder, said, “Africa is a defining continent for the future of the global energy landscape.

“The potential for the development of renewable energies and green hydrogen production is immense, and the presence of raw materials necessary for the development of technologies for the energy transition are all exciting issues that we are eager to discover and share through our Odyssey.”
