Hyzon Motors has announced the successful completion of its liquid hydrogen, fuel cell electric vehicles first commercial run, in collaboration with Chart Industries and Performance Food Group (PFG).
The truck completed deliveries to eight PFG customers, travelling over 540 miles on a 16-hour continuous run, demonstrating the viability of on-board liquid hydrogen.
The use of liquid hydrogen allows Hyzon to increase the amount of fuel on board significantly due to increased energy density, with no changes to the vehicles weight or payload. To meet the required heat to keep it in a liquid state, Hyzon partnered with Chart to develop a tank system capable of storing liquid hydrogen at -400°Fahrenheit.
