Ten years ago, it felt as though the notion of a hydrogen economy was losing ground to the hybrid engines that were changing the face of the automotive sector. Today, however, there is conviction and realisation. There is a renewed definition of what the hydrogen economy is, what it will be.

We’ve moved beyond the chicken and egg scenario that dogged hydrogen mobility for so long. There is an acceptance that hydrogen has the ability to power not just passenger and commercial vehicles but whole industries and walks of life and, further still, that the time is now for the hydrogen society.

With scale-up and public perception arguably the only two hurdles still to be overcome, here’s five reasons why the world is unifying in its belief that a hydrogen society has to happen – and 10 signs that it is already in motion.
