Fives and GuofuHee to advance Chinese mobility market with liquid hydrogen technology

Fives and Jiangsu Guofu Hydrogen Energy Equipment Co. (GuofuHee) agree to support the expansion of liquid hydrogen installations in the Chinese mobility market.

The two companies will aim to optimise the performance of liquid hydrogen, particularly for liquefaction storage and transportation applications.

Fives has over 50 references in hydrogen liquefaction equipment, such as hydrogen specific brazed aluminium heat exchangers and cryogenic pumps. GuofuHee is a leading private supplier of integrated solutions for the hydrogen value chain in China.

Since 2019, the company has provided and operated supply systems, refuelling stations and generation units. Along with Fives’ heat exchangers, cold boxes, and cryogenic pumps, GuofuHee will look to become China’s largest provider for hydrogen equipment.

Pinfang Wu, GuofuHee’s Board Chairman, explained that liquid hydrogen is expected to play an important role in the company’s business development strategy.

“We hope this cooperation with Fives will be extended to other areas and look forward to development cutting-edge hydrogen technologies for many years to come,” added Wu.

Frédéric Thrum, Deputy General Manager and President of the Energy Division at Fives, said, “Fives has been developing cryogenic solutions for the Chinese market for over 15 years and we recently expanded our production capacities locally to answer the growing need for hydrogen equipment.”

The French company partnered with Cryomotive last year (2023) to jointly develop and validate a cryogenic pump for heavy-duty hydrogen refuelling stations.

The companies worked together to validate the pump for generation cryo-compressed hydrogen gas, which could reach densities of over 80kg/m³ at pressures between 30 and 40Mpa.
