Franco-Japanese group awarded Omani land for 2.5GW green hydrogen project

Oman has awarded a Franco-Japanese consortium with almost 340km2 of land to develop a 2.5GW green hydrogen plant for ammonia production.

Made up of EDF, EDF Renewables, J-POWER and Yamna, the consortium expects to build around 4.5GW of wind and solar coupled with battery storage as well as 2.5GW of electrolysis on the land.

Awarded by state-owned Hydrogen Oman (Hydrom), the land located in the Dhofar Governorate could host the production of one million tonnes of green ammonia per year.
