German city to feature urban green hydrogen production

A ‘New West City Climate Quarter’ concept has been revealed in the city of Esslingen, Germany, that will feature several innovative low-carbon energy solutions such as the production of green hydrogen in an urban environment.

The concept features several electric hybrid buses from SVE Esslingen, a municipal transport company, and the use of fully solarised roof areas that will provide renewable energy for the area.

Uniquely, the solar panel areas will feed into two electrolyser units that will produce green hydrogen in an urban environment – a distinguishing feature that is said to be unique in Germany.
