Germany doubles domestic hydrogen production target to 10GW while planning import strategy

The German cabinet has today (July 26) approved an updated national hydrogen strategy, doubling its domestic 2030 electrolysis capacity target from 5GW to 10GW.

Coming as guidelines for hydrogen production and use, the updated strategy is hoped aid Germany in reaching climate neutrality by 2045.

Despite the large increase in plans for domestic production, the German Government have predicted hydrogen demand to be at 95-130tWH in 2030, with 50-70% being met by imports of the energy carrier.
