In 2020, 90 million tonnes of hydrogen were produced globally, a figure met almost entirely by fossil fuel-based hydrogen, according to the IEA. The dominance of fossil fuels made hydrogen production responsible foralmost 900 million tonnes (MT) of direct CO2emissions in 2020 – 2.5% of global CO2emissions in energy and industry.
