Haffner Energy changes hydrogen technology roll out plans

Haffner Energy is launching a new roll-out phase of its Hynoca® technology for decarbonising and producing green hydrogen and renewable gas by thermolysis of biomass.

The French-based company on Wednesday (June 1) signed an amendment to contracts with R-Hynoca, a joint venture with Réseau Energies Renouvelables (ENR), which will see two modules producing a total of 30kg of hydrogen per hour, instead of three with the same capacity.

Planned to be installed at the ENR’s parent company, R-GDS’ site in Strasbourg, France, it is hoped the upscaled modules will reduce the footprint on the site.

The initial contract was for the assembly and installation of pilot module with 11kg of hydrogen production per hour capacity, in 2021, with an additional two modules to follow in 2022 to see 33kg of hydrogen produced per hour by mid-2023.

Haffner Energy also aim to install a new generation module in Strasbourg for testing in the first quarter of 2023.
