Hexagon Purus will supply its high-pressure cylinders for the US’ first hydrogen-powered train.
The company today (6th Nov) announced a contract signing with Swiss manufacturer Stadler Rail, who is supplying its FLIRT train for the project.
Under the contract, Hexagon will develop a new cylinder tank system to be approved in the US.
Micharl Kleschinsko, Executive Vice-President of Hexagon Purus, said, “In the midst of the climate crisis, the demand for solutions that help reduce emissions across transport industries is growing rapidly.
“Hydrogen-powered trains are a smart solution to reduce local emissions without incurring the high cost of electrifying the tracks.”
“We are pleased to help with the further development of the infrastructure need for this ground-breaking move in public transit.”
The train will be built and tested in Switzerland and other European locations, before being transferred to California in 2023.
