HVS begins Attribute Prototype manufacturing at Silverstone facility

Hydrogen Vehicle Systems (HVS) has begun manufacturing its Attribute Prototype (AP) test vehicles as it edges closer to hydrogen fuel cell HGV production.

Taking place in the UK at Fablink’s Silverstone, Northamptonshire facility, the two companies are collaborating to develop the prototype, with the support of manufacturing service partner HSSMI.

The first build of the prototype rigs has been completed at the Silverstone site and will be delivered to UTAC, Leyland for initial rig testing. Several other APs are now being manufactured; each unit being used to test specific attributes of truck design ahead of series production expected to start mid-decade.

Under a long-term partnership, Fablink will provide the manufacturing of cab structures, chassis, and power towers and assembly services. The Silverstone facility offers quality assurance, logistics, a toolroom and office features.

“The next project phase in Silverstone, combined with the support of our exceptional team and manufacturing partners, positions us perfectly to successfully deliver our prototype programme,” explained Lisa-Marie Cunningham, HVS Interim Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Following successful vehicle testing last month (March), HVS’ Chief Commercial Officer, John McLeister, told H2 View, “We’ll add a number of prototype units to carry on that testing so we can speed up the process.

“Now we’re focused on the next phase of testing, which is our AP tested to another level so we start to build up the body and cab assemblies and put that through this test as well.”
