Hydrogen edges closer to cleaning up Rotterdam refinery

Sunfire today (July 5) revealed it has delivered two high-temperature electrolysis units to produce green hydrogen at Neste’s renewable products refinery in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

The company has said it is currently installing the electrolysis modules, that are set to provide green hydrogen to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), renewable diesel, and sustainable feedstock for plastics as part of the MultiPLHY project.

Under the EU-funded demonstration project, a 2.6MW high-temperature electrolyser, made up of twelve of Sunfire’s electrolysis modules, are set to be installed, contributing to Neste’s ambitions of reaching carbon neutral production by 2035.
