Hydrogen fuel cells to power Royal Caribbean Group’s next generation of luxury cruise ships

Royal Caribbean Group’s ultra-luxury brand Silversea Cruises is set to introduce the cruise industry’s first hybrid powered ship, including a hydrogen fuel cell, which will debut in summer 2023, the company said today (Oct 22).

The new class of ship, known as Project Evolution, will operate using a trio of different power sources which includes a hydrogen fuel cell, battery technology and dual fuel engines using liquified natural gas (LNG).

The result is a cruise ship that is free of local emissions when in port.
