Hydrogen planned to clean up oil and gas production in Egypt

An Egyptian oil and gas company’s decarbonisation goals are set to be supported by hydrogen with the announcement of upgrades to its refinery.

Mitsubishi Power revealed on Wednesday (June 15) it had signed a contact with Egypt’s Alexandria National Refining & Petrochemicals Company (ANRPC) to upgrade its refinery’s heavy fuel oil burner, enabling hydrogen and natural gas to be used as a fuel.

The companies believe the planned hydrogen upgrades will reduce the plant’s carbon dioxide emissions by 22,000 tonnes per year.
