Hydrologiq: A package for off-grid hydrogen power

As further industries look to decarbonise their operations, the use case for hydrogen in off-grid power has become an increasingly relevant and promising solution. Despite the technology having already shown that it is up to the job, as with many sectors, making fuel supply and the end use align has proved difficult.

UK-based start-up Hydrologiq was born in 2019, to tackle just that issue, in pursuit of decarbonising heavy-duty off-grid power, which Benjamin Lindley, the company’s co-founder, told H2 View was an area with significant carbon emissions.

“This is an area with a major carbon footprint: in the UK alone, we burn over one billion litres of diesel every year, emitting over 3.6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e),” said Lindley. “It’s also an area where construction workers or festivalgoers have historically just had to put up with noise and dirty air.

“Diesel generators are a huge environmental challenge. This is an urgent problem, and hydrogen is one of the best solutions.”
