Hydrologiq powers light projection event for Toyota using hydrogen generators

Hydrologiq took part in what is potentially the “world’s first” hydrogen-powered film shoot for Toyota.

Located at the Oldham landmark Booth House, two of Hydrologiq’s 110kVA hydrogen fuel cell generators powered the production of the whole site, from the film and lighting to the transport and food services.

The hydrogen-powered generators powered 14 projectors which performed a light show in February last year (2023). The green hydrogen was produced via wind and solar energy and delivered to the site in a tube trailer.

Hydrologiq engineers installed the power setup and IoT monitoring system which observed the hydrogen levels during the event and ensured the hydrogen supply was maintained.

Hydrologiq’s Co-Founder, Benjamin Lindley, claimed that if steps towards reaching Net Zero aren’t achieved, “we’re just going to delay ever getting there.”

“Now that we’ve been able to deploy a tube trailers worth of hydrogen, we can then go: ‘right, we’re going to scale-up, get bigger [and] deploy more,” added Lindley.

“If we really want to support a world that is healthy to live in, we need to take the first steps now.”

Harry Riciardo, Video Technician and Projectionist for the shoot, said, “I couldn’t see any reason why large productions couldn’t be powered by hydrogen.

Everything has been seamless from the off, nothing’s happened differently to what we always do, which is only a good thing.”

Toyota’s UK Marketing Director, Stuart Sanders, commented, “In delivering this – in doing something that is a first and effectively making the impossible possible, we’ve created a film that showcases the transformation journey we’ve been on before and we’re on again, but we’ve done it in a way that showcases the flexibility and impact of hydrogen in our society as we go forward.”

In 2022, Hydrologiq deployed the EODev GEH2 100kVa fuel cell generator at major UK music festival, Boomtown Fair. The solution provided power to the site’s public transport hub throughout the event.
