Hygenco plans to produce 1.1 million TPA of ammonia from Tata Steel plant

Hygenco Green Energies has agreed to develop a large-scale ammonia project at Tata Steel’s Special Economic Zone Industrial Park (GIP).

Under a binding agreement, Hygenco aims to produce 1.1 million tonnes per year of green ammonia from the plant in Odisha, India, across multiple phases.

H2 View understands the plant’s initial phase will be commissioned by December 2026. In February (2024), the project received approval from the High-Level Clearance Authority of the Chief Minister’s office.

Several binding long-term offtakes have been signed by Hygenco for green hydrogen in India, such as the country’s “first” megawatt-scale plant for a “prominent steel company” in Hisar, Haryana.
